The Presidential Initiative on Banana Industrial Development (PIBID), whose successor entity is the Banana Industrial Research and Development Centre (BIRDC), is seeking to fill vacant positions. We are a Company Limited by Guarantee, guided by our mission to be a centre of excellence for farmer-focused banana industrial development and our vision of becoming a state-of-the-art research and business centre for value-added products.

In order to achieve our mission and vision, we seek to fill the vacant positions in the different directorates below.

DIRECTORATE OF FINANCE

1. Job Title: Cost Accountant

Responsible to:
Manager, Finance
Salary Scale:
BRD 4.3

Job Summary:

This position plays a crucial role in the financial management of PIBID/BIRDC operations by analysing and reporting on various aspects of production costs. It involves monitoring, recording, and analysing all costs associated with the production process to ensure accurate financial reporting and informed decision-making.

Key Results Areas / Accountabilities:

  • Cost Analysis: Conduct detailed analysis of manufacturing costs, review and update cost estimates, and analyse variances.
  • Inventory Management: Oversee inventory valuation, collaborate with the production team for reconciliation, and implement control measures.
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare and present reports, provide insights for decision-making, and assist in budget preparation.
  • Month-end Close: Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for cost reduction and operational efficiency.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with accounting standards and assist in audits.

Person Specification:

  • Qualifications: Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce or Business Administration (Accounting/Finance option) plus a professional qualification (CMA, ACCA, CPA). MBA is an added advantage.
  • Experience: At least 3 years in a similar role in a manufacturing setting.
  • Skills: Analytical, critical thinking, communication, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.

2. Job Title: Head Procurement and Disposal Unit

Responsible to:
Manager, Operations
Salary Scale:
BRD 4.3

Purpose of the Job:

To lead the Procurement and Disposal Unit of BIPID/BIRDC and be responsible for planning and managing the Procurement and Disposal Functions in line with relevant regulations.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform functions in accordance with PPDA Act.
  • Coordinate preparation of Annual Consolidated Procurement Plan.
  • Review procurement audit reports.
  • Prepare bidding documents and coordinate evaluation processes.
  • Develop internal controls and manage documentation.
  • Supervise, mentor, and appraise staff.

Person Specification:

  • Qualifications: Hons Bachelor’s degree in Procurement and Supplies Management or a related field with a Post Graduate Diploma. Master’s is an added advantage.
  • Experience: At least 5 years in a government or reputable private sector procurement function, with 3 years at a senior level.
  • Skills: Leadership, vast knowledge in government procurement policies, and computer literacy.

DIRECTORATE OF DBED

1. Job Title: Marketing Manager

Responsible to:
Director DBED
Salary Scale:
BRD 3.3

Job Summary:

The Marketing Manager will lead our marketing efforts and drive the growth of Tooke Products on the local market. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of the food industry and a passion for creative marketing.

Responsibilities:

  • Marketing Strategy: Develop and execute comprehensive marketing strategies.
  • Brand Management: Cultivate and maintain the company’s brand identity.
  • Digital Marketing: Oversee social media, website management, and online advertising.
  • Market Research: Stay updated on industry trends and identify growth opportunities.

Person Specification:

  • Qualifications: Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce or Business Administration (Marketing option). MBA is also acceptable.
  • Experience: At least 5 years of working experience, with 3 years at a supervisory level.
  • Skills: Leadership, interpersonal and communication skills, and familiarity with digital marketing.

2. Job Title: Distribution Sales Manager

Reports to:
Director DBED

Job Summary:

The Sales and Distribution Manager provides hands-on leadership to a team of distributors and sales agents responsible for distributing our products.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify and develop sales channels.
  • Provide demand forecasting and up-sell products.
  • Lead and coach a team of sales representatives.
  • Oversee work with the team through management, action planning, and field operations.

Person Specification:

  • Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce (Marketing option). A Master’s or professional qualification in marketing is an added advantage.
  • Experience: At least five (5) years of work experience in sales and distribution.
  • Skills: Positive attitude, high energy, strong relationship building, and excellent time management.

DIRECTORATE OF DCAO (ICT Department)

1. Job Title: ICT Manager

Responsible to: DCAO

Job Summary:

To provide leadership and management in the provision of ICT Service Delivery, Information Governance, and Business Transformation teams to ensure they have the requisite skills and resources.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the ICT Service delivery function.
  • Develop the supply and distribution of information to improve decision-making.
  • Lead and manage the Business Transformation function.
  • Maintain legal compliance through software licensing.
  • Define the ICT Strategy and develop supporting policies.

Person Specification:

  • Qualifications: Honours degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field. Professional certification (ITIL, MCSE) is an advantage.
  • Experience: A minimum of 5 years in ICT, with 3 years at a senior level in a large organization.
  • Skills: Proven leadership, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and strategic ability.

DIRECTORATE OF RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT

1. Job Title: Laboratory Technician

Responsible to: Senior Laboratory Technician
Salary Scale:
BRD 5

Job Summary:

To perform technical work involving laboratory analysis of food, feed, and soil samples. Job duties include a combination of extensive and complex steps requiring manual manipulation, close monitoring, and evaluation of data.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyse test samples and ensure efficiency.
  • Perform quality control and maintenance activities.
  • Maintain equipment and records of test results.
  • Ensure a safe and clean work environment.
  • Follow all Quality Assurance/Quality Control procedures.

Person Specification:

  • Qualifications: Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Experience: Experience operating laboratory equipment and handling potentially dangerous substances.
  • Skills: Basic knowledge of MS Office, ability to work under pressure, and keen attention to detail.
